Amelia was very kindly sent a dress recently from FiFi Le Rue to try & test.A quirky company, specialising in handmade children’s dresses & skirts, including bespoke items. Each dress & skirt come with a beautiful pocket sewn onto the dress/skirt. Using unique fabrics, some with a twist of fun, such as this Russian Doll design on our dress.
FiFi Le Rue is a collaboration between identical twin sisters Fiona and Lorna Archibald, originally from Glasgow. Fiona studied Textile Design at Glasgow School of Art and now teaches Art to secondary pupils in South County Dublin. Lorna graduated from Strathclyde University and spent 6 years in London working in Marketing and Events before relocating to Tralee, Co.Kerry with her 3-year-old daughter Jessie.
FiFi Le Rue originally began in Dublin in 2007 making vintage inspired ladies cocktail dresses which were sold from Cows Lane Designer Mart. Following the birth of Lorna’s daughter, Jessie, they saw how quickly Jessie grew out of her own favourite dresses and decided to branch into childrenswear and design a dress that would grow with her. Their pocket dresses tie at the shoulders making them easy to adjust and allowing them to become swing tops as your little lady grows. They have just launched their first collection of children’s dresses and skirts for 0-5 years on Facebook/lovefifilerue.
Lorna said” We were brought up surrounded by sewing as our grandmother was a fabulous seamstress who passed the skills on to our own Mother who passed them to us- our Barbie’s were the best dressed dolls in Glasgow!”
I think their collection is just beautiful. I love that this can be worn as a top when it gets too short to wear as a dress. This would be a high selling point for me.Children grow out of their clothes within a mater of months, so I feel I would be getting an outfit that could be worn two ways with the dress. I was a bit concerned when I opened my package to see a cream dress inside (A 15 month old & cream/white are never a good mix). Now it has been worn quite a few times, stained with food, washed at 30 C, and the dress remains perfect. The high quality material & stitching used, ensures that the dresses continue looking new, despite several washes.
FiFi Le Rue have kindly offered my readers €5 off each purchase on mentioning “A Little Londoner” on purchasing.
