We recently needed to get our 5th car seat!!! It sounds insane when I only have two kids, but I work long shifts and cannot pick them up in the evening.I drop the kids to nursery and their daddy picks them up from their grandparents after work, meaning we need car seats for both cars. We had been still using Harry's baby Maxi Cosi for the short 3 min drive. Amelia has a Joie Stages car seat in her daddy's car. So at 15 months and the size of a beast…it was time to bid adieu to the baby seat, put it back in the attic (where it may stay put for a long time if I don't get a proper sleep soon) and go on the hunt for a big boy car seat.
Since becoming a mum, I have become loyal to brands. End of. The Maxi Cosi Pebble was Amelia's first car seat, passed down to Harry, then we moved her into the Maxi Cosi Axsis and bought Harry the same one for my car. I loved that they were a seat that I could turn towards the door, saving my back and making it easier for them to get out of, especially if they were sleeping.
When Joie the brand behind our Stages car seat (you can read all about that here) got in touch to see if we would like to review their newest car seat in their range the Joie Spin 360, it came at the perfect time! I was in the middle of reviewing car seats for our second car. The Joie Spin 360 is suitable from birth to age 4 and with an inbuilt Isofix, it saves you the money on buying two car seats and an isofix base
It is called the 360, because that's exactly what it does. It manoeuvres in a 360° turn, meaning your baby can be rear facing from birth and the AAP recommends that all infants ride rear facing starting with their first ride home from the hospital. All infants and toddlers should ride in a rear-facing seat until they are at least 2 years of age or, preferably, until they reach the highest weight or height allowed by their car seat manufacturer.
Some more features of the Joie Spin 360:
•Group 0+/1 car seat
•Suitable rearward facing from birth to 18kg/4 years
•Suitable forward facing from 9kg to 18kg/4 years
•360° rotating seat makes an easy in, easy out
•5 recline positions can be used both rearward and forward facing
•Grow Together™ multi-height headrest and harness system adjust simultaneously and require no re-threading of harness
•Grow-with-me infant body and head support are customisable
•Integrated load leg
•Plush, deluxe cushioning and fabrics to keep baby cosy
•Built in side ventilation to keep baby cool on those warm days
•Easy installation using ISOFIX
•5 point harness with shoulder and lower buckle covers that tightens with one pull motion
So what did we think? We love it! It's so comfortable, Harry doesnt get as hot and sweaty, on long journeys in this seat because of the ventilated sides. The seat is straight when I turn it towards the door, rather than slightly tilted like our other chairs. Because it is based on an isofix he can see out the window, and it is so easy to take in and out of the car, even I can do it.
As well as being loyal to brands, I'm a perfectionist. I like things to match, symmetry and look nice! So having two Maxi Cosi Axsis car seats in the back of my seat made me content (very sad I know), but not anymore! There was no way after trialing and testing the Joie Spin 360 was I willing to part with it, even if it did bother me initially that I had two different car seats
! Well done Joie, I think ye have literally ticked all the boxes when it comes to the "perfect" baby/child's car seat!
